Beggars from Tanzania have flooded Migori town streets, a local Non Governmental Organisation has said.
Network in Disability and Community Development has challenged the Migori county government to put in place measures of clearing the town of street beggars.
According to the organization’s chairperson Bernard Ochuodho, there is an invasion of homeless persons in the town some of whom are believed to have come from the neighboring country, Tanzania.
The chairperson said that the town has been overwhelmed by this crop of people who are usually seen in the company of ladies in the evening yet when it dawns they sit on road sides begging.
He said that they have already identified some whom they have even accorded some assistance but they are still being spotted within the town looking hapless.
Ochuodho stated that such habits impact negatively on people with disability as the public will view them as a burden to the society where they come from.
He added that as an organization, they have always engaged their members in income generating activities to sustain their daily lives instead of relying on handouts from well-wishers.
