MIGORI –Over 30 young people from across Migori County have completed a week-long entrepreneurship training program aimed at equipping them with practical business skills to combat unemployment.
The Migori Youth Empowerment Program, held at the Migori ICT hall, brought together unemployed graduates, college leavers, and small-scale traders seeking to turn their ideas into sustainable ventures.
Participants received hands-on training in business planning, financial management, digital marketing, and customer relations.
“Many young people have brilliant ideas but lack the know-how to execute them,” said Dr Erick Masika, A facilitator.
“This training bridges that gap by giving them tools they can apply immediately,”he added.
Attendees also benefited from mentorship sessions with successful entrepreneurs from the region, who shared real-world experiences on navigating challenges such as accessing capital and managing cash flow.
One participant, Faith Achieng, a 24-year-old from Suna East, said the program changed her approach to her small tailoring business. “I used to mix business money with personal expenses. Now I understand bookkeeping and profit reinvestment,” she said.
The program concluded with a pitch session where ten participants presented business plans and did a business challenge q&a session.
Facilitator, who officiated the closing ceremony, urged youths to shift from job-seeking to job creation. “The government cannot employ everyone. These skills are your lifelong asset,” he told the gathering.
