Over 40 primary schools in Kuria west are expected to benefit from the Digital literacy program that saw several laptops and tablets installed in the area.

Addressing the media during the installation, Migori County ICT Director Alex Odhiambo said they installed 80 Teachers’ Digital Device and 2380 Learners’ Digital Devices in the 40 schools in Kuria West.

“Apart from 80 Teachers’ Digital Device and 2380 Learners Digital Devices given today, all the 40 schools will receive 1 projector, 1 content server and 1 hard disk to help in learning”, he said.

Mr. Alex also said that electrical power and security of the machines are now a point of concern as most of those schools lacks electricity and good stores. He urged teachers to ensure that the machines are used properly to help the pupils.

He said, ” power and security of these machines are our main concern. We plead with the teachers to ensure they are all taken care of to benefit the children.”

This move has however received applausion and criticism in an equal measure with a section of the public terming it as a Jubilee political tool.

“This project is now used as a political tool by Jubilee to woe voters in Migori County. Its not in a goodwill,” said Mr. Joel Otieno, business man in Migori town.

Kuria West is the third Constituency to receive the laptops in Migori County after Nyatike and Kutia East constituencies late last year.

The laptop project which was initiated last year was top of the agenda in the Jubilee government. This project targets lower primary school and seeks to digitize learning.
