Watchman from Oruba arrested with Sh4m equipment stolen from Migori referral hospital

Police in Migori have arrested a guard after he was found in possession of equipment believed to have been stolen from Migori County referral hospital.

Police acting on a tip off from the public recovered equipment and supplies worth Shs. 4 million which had been stolen from the county hospital.

The guard was trailed to his home in Oruba where he was arrested and several items recovered from the house.

“We got a tip off from the public, when police trailed the guard to his home in Oruba estate within twon they found the items,” Patrick Macharia, Migori OCPD said.

Among the equipment stolen are an X-ray machine, theater sanitary equipment, a fridge, TV set, computer and several plastic chairs.

This comes amidst as Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been complaining of drugs being stolen from public hospital and being smuggled into neighbouring Tanzania.

The Governor while launching  distribution of medicine at the facility said corruption was rampant at the facility that even corpses could be smuggled out of the morgue for as little as shs. 50.

In 2016, the governor said county will fast track the installation of electronic stock machine for equipment and medicine to avoid pilferages and theft. It is yet to take place.
