WANDAYI: Govt will spend Sh1.9billion to solve Migori black outs

The government has allocated Ksh. 1.9B to cover 18 thousand households in bid to solve perennial power blackouts in Migori.

Speaking at Obolo Comprehensive school in Muhuru, CS Energy Opiyo Wandai said the Nyatike alone had been. allocated ksh. 410M to cover approximately 3500 households.

Additionally, he said the government has commissioned the Ndhiwa Sondu line to stabilize power suply to the large South Nyanza region.

In Migori, Wandayi said plans were in progress to put up a new line from new Masaba station with a switching station at Namba Kodero at a cost of ksh. 150M.

He added that another line will be done from Awendo substation to Gogo hydro powerplant at a cost of ksh. 65M.

He said the government was also upgrading Gogo powerplant to 8.6MW from 2MW at a cost of Ksh. 6B.

Wandayi said that Kenya power was also designing a modern substation in Muhuru to serve the region.

All these, he said, were in the government’s comprehensive plan to solve perennial blackouts and enable access to power to more households.
