A police report seen by Nyanza News has revealed that rumours of assassination attempt on Homa Bay deputy governor Oyugi Magwanga life was mere fabrications.

Early social media was awash with rumours that an assassin had fired at Magwanga vehicle and was repelled by his bodyguards.

But a report at Oyugis Police Station said there was a shooting incident and was entered under ob no. 02/12/05/2025 at 0100hrs.

A police officer Danfred Ochieng who is a security personnel attached to Magwanga that yesterday at around 2200hrs while heading to the Deputy Governor’s home in Komuso village in East Kamagak location they saw some suspicious people around 300 meters from the home.

He was with a driver in Magwanga’s personal vehicle.

“They spotted two suspicious male individuals hiding in a bush about 300 meters from the residence,” the report said.

The driver stopped the vehicle and as the police officer stepped from the vehicle to enquire who they were, they dashed towards the nearby river and disappeared.

It is here that the officer shot up in the air four times using his Jericho pistol to thwart any attempts to breach their security.

In panic, another officer No.225473 Apc Alphonce Were Agwanda who was guarding the residence gate responded and also fired in the air twice using his G3 rifle.

Officers from Oyugis police station and Dci Rachuonyo South in company of the Ocs visited the scene which is about 7 kilometers from the station and established that the Deputy Governor was not in the company of Security personnel and driver at the time of the incident.

The scene combed but no suspect nor any cartridge case found.
