Two Migori legislators have called on government to allocate more funds to constituency kitties especially for bursaries in constitutional amendment.
Nyatike MP Tom Odege and his Awendo counterpart Walter Owino, in separate interview with Migori News, said Covid 19 pandemic has seen more pressure on NG-CDF kitties especially bursary applications.
Owino said in his constituency he had received over 11,000 applicants for bursary including from students outside the constituency.
“It is clear that most people are overwhelmed with responsibilities and need support to help educate their children,” Owino said.
The legislator said the current amount disburded by the kitty is not enough to meet all development needs of the constituency.
“What we are currently receiving for the bursary kitty is not enough to ensure we meet the needs especially in the education sector,” owino said.
His sentiments was echoed by Odege who said most constituencies have been forced to lock out more needy students from bursary lists.
Odege said they are committed towards ensuring the little that is currently available is geared towards empowering the needy students even as they continue to advocate for more funds in the next financial year.
“We have bright and needy students who at the same time are total orphans and are not informed on how to access the forms for application I call on the society to help us identify such cases for necessary assistance.” said Odege.
The two said they will look for a motion to allocate more funds for the kitty.
