(VIDEO) Lwala Community Alliance donates ambulance for Rongo Sub-county Hospital

Lwala Community Alliance has donated an ambulance to Rongo sub-county hospital to help boost maternal health care in Migori especially during Covid 19 contaiment measures.

The ambulance, which is fully equipped, will help in transportation of patients to the hospital with a special bias to pregnant women and infants under the age of five years through a network of over 2,000 Community Health Volunteers the alliance works with.

Robert Kasambala,  the chief of staff at organisation handed over the ambulance to the county healthd epartment.

“It is very important to give protection and better health care to mother’s especially through provision of emergency health care to ensure children are granted the opportunity to celebrate their fifth birthday,” he said,

He said most maternal deaths are experienced due to delayed response to mother who are in labour.

“During birth several challenges arise which requires transfers of patients to more adversed and equiped health facilities and this ambulance will help the administration of this hospital to ensure they adequately respond to such cases in good time to save lives,” he said.

County health chief officer Dalmas Oyugi said the organisation has played a major role in positively impacting health services across the county.

He noted the county has been recording high number if maternal deaths due to weak systems in the theatre and transport within it’s health facilities,

“Lwala has played a major role within Migori and the region to provide a boost for better health services to people,” he said.
