From Top to Bottom: Christopher Rusana, Edick Anyanga, Boaz Okoth, Jared Kopiyo and John Kobado

Before August 9, 2022 general elections the moniker ‘i will stand in 2022’ was hot on lips of politicians.

Supporters were unleashed to drum up support, media spaces were made active and even launches organised ahead of next polls.

But since politics is not for the faint-hearted, some politicians have been forced to completely abandon their quest or completely scale down to other seats after evaluating reality.

In Migori here are Top 10 politicians:

10. Sheila Ghati- Woman Representative to MIA (Missing In Action)
She came strongly and declared she will be our next Migori Woman Representative in the ballot. She pushed through on social media, but as the date neared and reality started to set in she disappeared from social functions and social media completely. She refused to resign as county executive and stayed put. Putting on hold her ambition and deciding to see off her contract instead of running on the campaign trail.

9. Kephers Nyamita- MP to MIA
The man from ‘pier MiT’ or behind MIT, former name for Rongo University told everybody who cared to listen that he was going to resign as the Health Executive and give Rongo MP a ran for his money in campaign trail. He huffed and puffed, and all his energy was wasted with none left to pick his pen and resign on deadline day. His political ambition went up in smoke, leaving his supporters agash.

8. Nelson Oluoch- MP in ODM to Jubilee and John Zatta- MP in UDA to DAP-K?
This two will tie, for putting heat on Rongo MP race and ensuring supporters of incumbent Paul Abuor feel the heat. Oluoch picked ‘Kwach Ogolo Koke’ (The leopard has beared it’s talons) and was set for ODM nominations. He shifted to Jubilee Party giving Abuor a direct ticket. His supporters decamped to Abuor’s camp and told a public gathering they thought they were backing a leopard and found out he was a cat.
Zatta was the face behind UDA in Migori, graced all Deputy President William Ruto’s rallies in Migori and at one point was looking forward to UDA nominations against Michael Omboga. He complained about everything on campaign trail, dropped out of UDA. The last time Migori News check it was hard to ascertain of he in Rongo MP seat on DAP-K or as independent candidate. That is if he is still interested in politics

7. Nyajure Achar- MP to MIA
The man from Nyatike who wanted to be the MP. He was (or is he still) the Rarieda Constituency Manager and picked ‘Rao Nyadundo’ (A short and stout strong hippo) in campaign trail. His social media pages were awash with photos of his campaign trail. Then they disappeared. He went Missing In Action. Is he still on the ballot?

6. John Kobado- MP to MIA
Immediate former Uriri MP, who will not be in the ballot and no current aspirant between the incumbent Mark Nyamita and Jared Kwaga are actively courting him which speaks volumes on his ground presence. He was to vie, complete with posters and banners in several centers. But he won’t be on the ballot after stepping down (according to the last poll).

5. Edick Omondi Anyanga- Governor to MP
Immediate former Nyatike MP at one time ensured everybody knew he was the next Migori governor after Okoth Obado goes home on August 9. This went through until he made an about-turn and downscaled to trying and take back his seat from Tom Odege in the next polls. In last polls prolonged ODM nominations kept him off the ballot, this time he is coming on UPIA ticket and he had concentrated his energy in Nyatike.

4. Isaac Aluochier- Governor to Senator to MCA
Ok, he is the man who took BBI to court and stopped the entire reggae music in Kenya. An activist per excellence. He wanted to be the next Migori governor but in interview he said after doing his maths he realized that will be an expensive company. He opted to be the next senator, was preparing for campaigns then kaboom! Aluochier, son of Aluoch Polo former Rongo MP decided he is better off vying as East Kamagambo MCA.

3.Jared Kopiyo- MP to MIA
Immediate former Awendo MP will not be in the ballot. He was made the Migori Public Service Board chair by his ally Okoth Obado and was all over the media when he noisly decamped to Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party. He confirmed the defection by hosting Ruto in Awendo and said UDA will be his political vehicle to unseat Walter Owino. When the UDA vehicle came for August 9 ride, Kopiyo did no go to the stage to board. He decided his post in Migori is better than the hustler ride. He won’t be in the ballot.

2. Boaz Okoth- Governor to MIA
Immediate former Migori speaker who said he has never lost an election and was going to inherit his friend Okoth Obado governor seat when he retires. His governor talk, once chided by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed as ‘Miujiza’, was only anchored on his speaker post, salaries and perks he got from it. Once he was impeached as speaker and charged in court with several cases his anchor refused to let him sail on his governor voyage. Nowadays it is hard to spot him in public or social places he used to frequent when talking of his governor bid.

1.Christopher Rusana- Governor to MIA
He tops this list. He convinced Suna elders, opinion shapers and clergy to endorse his bid. Had a successful harambee that netted millions and organised a huge launch, where he and his supporters ‘ate’ teargas hauled at the event for his trouble. When Feb 8 deadline for all civil servants seeking elective posts came he left his supporters guessing and sneaked to Nairobi to negotiate an extension of his contract with Obado. He signed it, kissed his governor bid goodbye and is a happy ever after civil servant.
