On September 17 Migori county governor Okoth Obado launched a project at Migori primary school to end stigma of HIV/AIDS.

The project dubbed Migori County League was launched in conjunction with National Aids Control Council to target youth aged between 15-24 years.

But MCAs led by Central Sakwa MCA Johnston Owiro last Tuesday launched the petition saying they were not involved in the planning process.

“We only heard about it on the press and as the assembly we have not in any way be involved, we want the project stopped,” Owiro said.

Speaking to the press in his ward, Owiro said through the petition they want Obado to explain how much will be used in the project and how the money will be acquired.

“We did not factor the tournament in the project, we want to know how it came to be budgeted for,” he said.
Obado, while launching the project said: “Through this, the county shall reach all the 40 wards in the county.”

Migori County, according to the Governor still bears one of the heaviest HIV burdens in Kenya with its prevalence reading 14.7 per cent as compared to the national average of 6 per cent, with the county ranking four nationally, after Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties.
