Sisters and their husbands accused of fighting brother over late father property, causing Aroso funeral standoff

A funeral at Aroso estate in Migori town created a scene as family members exchange bitter words publicly over property row.

The family of John Opondo Okong’o who had two wives tussled over either to bury him at his ancestral home in Siaya county or at a parcel of land in Aroso at the center of the tussle.

The deceased’s son George Agwanda Okong’o said that they were shocked when his two brothers in law and his two sisters had ganged up against him over inheritance of a half an acre piece of land.

He claimed that the two sisters had taken all the late’s documents including the piece of land title deed, national identity card, bank details and was ready to sell the piece of land to another person.

He said there was a plan to bury the late in Ugenya for the land in Migori to be sold off.

Aroso village elder Julie Opondo said that residents want the late to be buried at his piece of land in Aroso to prevent escalating of the row.

Joel Owuor and George Saitoti, said that they were surprised to see the sons inlaw come to claim and fight for property with their only brother in-law.

The family was locked out in a series of meeting over the burial place.
