Over 72% of Migori residents suffer from eye conditions

At least 72 percent of residents in Migori County suffer from an eye conditions, Migori News has learnt.

This was revealed as the county marked the World Eye Sight Day at the Migori County Referral hospital.

According to County coordinator of communicable diseases, Mr. Paul Otieno, a survey conducted betweeen 2018 to 2020 revealed that 65% of residents suffer from an eye condition.

Mr. Otieno who works under the Fred Hollows Foundation however noted that the number increased to 72% in 2019 during the research.

Leading among the ailments are cases of cataract with the coordinator noting there was high need for eye treatment.

The County coordinator also noted that the county registered the high numbers because most people usually ignore the health of their eyes.

But to help reduce the number, Mr. Otieno said the county is conducting eye screening as well as surgical intervention for cataracts.

The county government conducts free checkup and treatments.

The County government has urged more people to come out for eye screening and treatment for reduce cases of eye ailments.
