Migori county commissioner Boaz Cherutich has confirmed over 1,500 school going children in the county are pregnant.
“We are planning to have them continue with their education through the ministry of education officials and chiefs,” he said.
He said while they are trying to trace all the girls to be back to school, their effort has not bore fruits 100 per cent.
“Young mothers who have given birth to leave their infants with nuns as they go to school to complete their education,” Cherutich said.
He said they have encouraged heads of learning institutions to give such learners a conducive environment to continue with education.
He was speaking on Monday March 8 during the international women day celebration at Migori county stadium which also saw the launch of Migori county sexual and gender based violence policy.
