Over 1,100 Nyatike, Uriri families displaced by floods get relief food

Floods victims from Uriri and Nyatike sub-county benefitted from 750 bags of rice donated by Chinese government.

A total of 1,125 families got help with direct aid from their legislators.

In Uriri constituency through MP Mark Nyamita, 100 families from North Kanyamkago ward residents living along river Kuja benefitted from 200 bags of rice.

Nyatike MP Tom Odege also ensured 1,025 families benefitted from 550bags of rice.

“Most Kenyan affected by floods have been ignored by government which has concentrated on fight against floods, we need the country to declare floods a national disaster,” Nyamita said.

He said families from Kamgundho, Komenya and Katieno villagers benefitted after homes and farms were swept away.

Nyatike sub-county commissioner Solomon Komen said Kabuto, Angugo, Modi, Sagama and Nyora villagers received donation which was mapped by administrators.

“Earliergovernment also gave a Sh5,400 cash transfer to cushion over 400 families in affected area, more food is on the pipeline,” Komen said.
