PRESS STATEMENT
POSTPONMENT OF THE PARTY GRASSROOTS ELECTIONS
Two months ago, we announced that the party will be holding grassroots elections across the country this year as a way of enhancing our support base and strengthening our branches. In this respect, we announced that the grassroots elections will be staggered for efficiency and easy management of the exercise.
We therefore decided the first batch of this exercise to involve seven counties namely; Marsabit, Wajir, Migori, Vihiga, Kajiado, Kilifi and Nairobi. Last month, we conducted Civic Education in Migori, Nairobi, Kajiado and Vihiga Counties to educate our members and supporters on the new party structures that we have introduced for their participation during the exercise. However, due to the Holy Month of Ramadhan, which was observed by our Muslim brothers last month, this exercise was not held in Wajir, Marsabit and Kilifi Counties hence the request by our members from the three Counties to be given more time to carry out civic education and adequate preparations for the elections.
We have also received a request from our members from Vihiga to be exempted from the exercise due to an important Cultural activity which will be held next month. In view of these requests, the National Elections Board has considered all factors and also acknowledge the huge interest and massive applications from party members interest in party positions and decided to push the exercise forward from the earlier scheduled dates and the new dates are 29thAugust to the 2nd of September 2015 in Marsabiti, Wajir, Kajiado, Migori, Kilifi and Vihiga counties.
In Nairobi County, the exercise will be held separately from the 5th to the 8th of September 2015. We urge our members and supporters in these Counties particularly Nairobi, Migori and Kajiado to bear with us and use this period to continue with the recruitment exercise and popularizing our party. The dates for the second batch of the elections will be announced later.
Thank you.
