Migori deputy governor Nelson Mahanga Mwita has sworn to push for Kurian’s defection from ODM in support of deputy president William Ruto.

Mahanga said the community has not been considered by ODM leader Raila Odinga in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) politics.

Okoth Obado’s deputy said the BBI will create new alignments in Migori county where his Kuria community will be locked out.

“I am ready to move ODM members and the Kuria community to support deputy president William Ruto if we are not considered in our space in Migori,” he said.

He said the BBI process denied the Kuria community a county.

“We want a rotational post of the governor so that when a Luo works for ten years, then a Kuria works for five. Raila should make it possible, otherwise we will support Ruto,” he said.

His sentiments will jeopardize his boss Okoth Obado who is already having strained relationship with ODM and leader Odinga.

Odinga on January 23 during the funeral of former Ndhiwa MP Owigo Olang’ accused Obado of distributing wheelbarrows, which are associated with Ruto.

Meanwhile, Mahanga is confident that the BBI will not ensure inclusivity and empower devolution even through there is increased allocation to the counties from 15 per cent to 35 per cent.

He was speaking in Ntimaru down during the official laying foundation of area sub-county headquarters where he was Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama.
