Principal Secretary Nelson Marwa promise to place a high tech campaign in Kuria is bearing fruit as jhe has pulled the political ground off the feet of two area legislators allied to deputy President William Ruto.

Marwa was recently made the minority Kuria community spokesman and promised to pull the community towards Raila Odinga Azimio la Umoja camp, throwing into disarray Kuria West MP Mathias Robi and his Kuria East counterpart Marwa Kitayama.

Already the Nelson Marwa move has seen seven elected MCAs who were allied to United Democratic Association (UDA) shifting base including for Jane Moronge who had earlier hinted at seeking Migori governorship on a UDA ticket announced that she would be seeking the county’s top seat on a DAP K party, an affiliate of Azimio la Umoja.

The MCAs who decamped included: Mwita Motangi (Nyabasi East), David  Sarara (Nyabasi West), Berard  Hoyo (Makerero), James Chacha (Bukira Central), Francis  Magori (Ntimaru West) ,David Sarara (Nyabasi West) and Nicholas Ngabiya (Tagare).

“We will rally our people behind you (Marwa and Raila). The community has never been outside government ad all signs points to Raila Odinga presidency, that’s where we ill take our  support,” Hoyo said after defecting from Jubilee.

Moronge said after having a chat with Nelson Marwa, he decided to jump ship as “Ruto’s bottom up economic model had no meaningful agenda. It is mere promises which are unattainable. DP will not be hoodwinking the Kuria community with  fake promises yet he was behind the country’s collapsed economy.”

“Like can he (Ruto) purport to uplift poor Kenyans to better livelihood if he is the same person who took the country down the drains through wanton corruption. His ideologies appear farfetched and mere hogwash,” she added.

Nelson moves are set to ensure Odinga consolidates Migori county votes where the Kuria community accounts for 25 per cent of the total 400,000 votes of the county.

In the August presidential poll s in 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta garnered 41,951 votes (65 per cent of the cast votes) while Raila got 21,202 votes (34 per) in Kuria.

In the repeat poll, Mr Keyatta  won in both constituencies with 19,587 votes in Kuria West with Mr Odinga garnering a parltry 214 votes.

Mr Keyatta  also won in the Kuria East constituency with 13,156 votes with Mr Odinga trailing with 180 votes.

In the 2013 general elections, Raila tried a negotiated democracy between the Kuria and Luo communities but it flopped on the ballot.
