MP Walter moves search of blogger Rashid to parliament, seeks answer from Matiang’i directly

Awendo MP Walter Owino has intensified pressure on the search of missing blogger Rashid Yusuf by taking the matter officially in the floor of parliament.

Owino has now sought statement over the abduction of Joseph Omolo.

“Hon. Deputy Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I seek to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security regarding the abduction of Mr. Joseph Omollo also known as Rashid Yusuf,” Owino said as captured in the hansard.

He said during the abduction, all his identification documents disappeared at the incident in Kokuro Junction, Awendo Constituency on 6th March 2021 at around 8.00 p.m.

Yusuf was abducted by unknown persons at Kokuro Junction in Awendo Constituency, who posed as customers in his Wines and Spirits Shop before accosting him and bundled him in a waiting car.

They fired in the air to scare away onlookers before speeding off towards Ranen area on the main Migori-Kisii-Nairobi Road.

The matter was reported to Ranen Police Post vide OB No.07/06/3/2021 and 39/06/3/2021.

“It is now over two months since the abduction occurred and the whereabouts of Rashid Ochieng’ remain unknown. It is against this background that I seek a statement,” the legislator said.

He demanded the commitee to explain “the status of the investigations into the abduction and disappearance and steps government taking to enhance security in Awendo Constituency and further investigate, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators responsible for the abduction.”

Walter also demands government to put out “measures has the relevant Ministry put in place to ensure that the affected family is duly compensated for the abduction.”
