Migori town, county overwhelmed by over 700 street families

Government stakeholder are overwhelmed with growing number of vulnerable of street families in Migori town.

The ballooning number of vulnerable orphans has been blamed for the rising number of street families in Migori County.

Migori County Director Children Services John Odinya said National Government funding of vulnerable orphans in the county can’t sustain all of them which pushes most of them to the streets.

He was speaking during county public participation on National Draft on Rehabilitation of Street Families to guide Faith-Based Organisations and Civil Society Organisations engaged in rehabilitating street families on legal and safe practices while handling vulnerable families.,

“Unless the government and relevant partners develop sustainable programs, Migori County urban centers will soon be overwhelmed by a number of poor and vulnerable street families,” he said..

Pamela Masese Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund (SFRTF) an official said there are over 700 street children and families in Migori.

Agness Awinja, Migori County government, Gender, and Social Services Director blamed poverty which has resulted in Migori vulnerable families use child labour to provide for the families.
