Migori county Members of County Assembly will walk away with hefty sendoff packages after the county assembly passed an allocation for their gratuity.
The MCA’s were awarded Ksh. 45,151,536 that they will share among themselves at the end of their five year term before the next general election.
The send of package is set to benefit 63 MCA’s and two executive members where each is expected to walk home with Ksh. 694,639 in gratuity.
According to sources at the county assembly, the allocation was made after the county legislators allegedly threatened cripple the passing of budget for financial year 2016/2017.
However speaking on condition of anonymity, a member of county assembly said that the money will help them reorganize their lives after the 2017 election.
“As it stands, most of us are not going to be elected back to the assembly and that is why many were of the idea of having a sendoff package,” the MCA said.
But this allocation has elicited criticism from some county volunteer workers who feel the county has neglected them.
According to Zipora Ogweno, a volunteer ECD teacher at Kwar Primary school in Awendo, the county government should also appreciate their work.
“We have volunteered to work for free and here we are, the MCA’s are awarding themselves very hefty allowances for gratuity, we too have families,” Ogweno said.
Many of the ECD teachers who have been rendering their services freely in Migori County and nearing retirement ,unfortunately they are going back home empty handed .
The allocation for gratuity has however been been factored in this year’s budget which is yet to be passed by the county assembly.

That’s not unexpected. If you get leadership you deserve then enjoy the rhythm. So next time vote out Obado and his entire cohort of good for nothing thieves with insatiable thirst for looting.
