Magoha should stop hating Migori, South Nyanza other parts also do exams- Obado, Nyamita

Migori county leaders have told off education cabinet secretary George Magoha of branding the area as examination cheating hotspot.

Led by governor Okoth Obado and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, the two said it was absurd that since the national examination started Magoha, who hails from Saiya county has branded South Nyanza region counties of Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Nyamira as examination cheating hot spot areas.

Magoha has visited Migori for the second time over examination cheating with several others in the area with the last meeting being on April 7.

“Magoha should name specific schools and teachers involved in teaching instead of ptting a whole region as a cheating hotspot,” Obado said.

He said earlier statement by Magoha shows prejudice by residents of Siaya, where Magoha hails from, and Kisumu county that the South Nyanza region is made of nacademic dwarfs.

“The education minister grew up here and he should stop tarnishing the name of Migori county. I know the harm of calling someone bad name. When I was still a student, some people were saying that students from South Nyanza have stolen exams,

His sentiments was shared by Nyamita said that instead of Magoha generalizing on exam irregularity in the county, he should have identified a specific school or teachers and dealt with them.

“He should just come to a specific school and their teachers and take action against them. We want to tell him that no one in this county supports exam cheating,” said Nyamita.

The two were speaking on Monday evening at a funeral in Uriri constituency.
