Division may rock the mighty Kenya National Union of Teachers over disgruntled leaders in the just concluded elections.

Rebels who were defeated in the polls as termed Knut as a political outfit which has outgrown its usefulness and plan to register a parallel union.

Registration of Kenya Teachers Congress (KTC is in advanced stage and member recruitment will begin in earnest.

They claim they were rigged out and their places taken by those perceived loyal to the secretary general of the giant union Wilson Sosion.

Former Nyanza NEC Apollo Oguda who was defeated by Rachuonyo executive secretary Eliud Ombori is among key proponents of the new outfit.

He said Sossion and deputy secretary general Hesborn worked for ouster of leaders due to their firm stand on union matters.

“Union issues must be handled tactfully without interferences from political wing. Money exchanged hands at the expense of leaders who could have propelled the union to greater heights,” he claimed.

Oguda welcomed the idea of a parallel union saying teachers rights must be put forward in every aspect.

On his part, NEC member in charge of Nyanza Eliud Ombori dismissed KTC saying that leaders should accept defeat in an election instead of castigating the same union where they worked tirelessly.

He told the press that the idea for the formation of a parallel union has been brought about by those who are nursing defeat and seeking sympathy from teachers.

Migori branch executive secretary Caleb Opondi confirmed to Migori News that he has been informed about KTC but he quickly dismissed it as hot air that will just disappear.

His Homa bay counterpart Cornes Ojuok said the new union is “hot air” and mechanism used by government to ensure the union is weak.
