Awendo Member of Parliament Walter Owino has challenged his political rivals to shun from politisizing education projects as campaign tool in the forthcoming general elections.
Owino said education mostly benefit students who are not voters and don’t follow on their parents’ political stance.
He was adressing parents and teachers of form one students who benefited from the national government constituency fund sponsorship kitty at the NGCDF offices in Awendo town today.
“When it comes to education of our children, politics should always take a backstage this will help us secure a brighter future for the next generation,” he said.
He encouraged parents to motivate and support their children to become better professionals.
“We must be focused towards producing better professionals from our region to help improve our living standards in future by encourgaing students to work hard in school,” he said.
He said the Awendo NG-CDF kitty received over 11,000 applicants for bursaries including those from outside Awendo.
“We did a through vetting of all applicants across the constituency through the assistance of locals and we are proud to say we will support 130 form one students, which will be added to other beneficiaries,” he said.
The legislator said Awendo NG-CDF is currently sponsoring 1780 in tertiary institutions,4439 secondary schools within the constituency, 3115 in secondary schools in other constituencies, 122 fully sponsored-students and 109 students currently at siruti technical training institution at a cost of Sh37 million.
