A 23 year old man this morning succumbed during a mining expedition at Kanyasrega , within Awendo in Migori county.

The deceased already identified as Fredrick Otieno is reported to have met his death when the weak walls of the mines collapsed .

According to Kanyasrega village Assistant chief Ezekiel kokeyo, the deceased died on his way to the hospital .

Kokeyo said the tough economic times fuelled by the ravaging covid pandemic has pushed many families to seek alternative means off income, with some venturing into risky activities.

The administrator expressed concern over the structural integrity of the mines and called on the Migori mining community with excavation machines to limit such eventualities.
