Kenya Film Classification Board in partnership with area Administration are planning to conduct an inspection in movie shows, video premises and cinemas in Migori County.

Regional Head, FCB Nyanza Region Mr. Edward Koech confirmed this during a sensitization workshop in Migori town, attended by all video operators in the County.

“Together with local administration, we contemplate a crackdown of video shows and cinemas in the county to ensure that only legall businesses are run there. We also seek to inspect those places to ensure they are safe for human use,” he said.

He also urged parents to be on the frontrow to ensure that thier children do not consume illegal content from movies, television and radios which are under KFCB’ regulation, citing internet as their biggest challenge.

He also sent a warning to those who import movies from the neighboring Cuntries to ensure they ate examined and classified by KFCB before public consumption. Film makers and documentary producers were not spared either as they were told to to get licensed for security concerns.

“All film makers must be licensed by KFCB. This entails even documentaries for security purposes. I want to urge video operators to ensure they bring imported movies for examination and classification before sale,” he said.

The workshop which was also attended by a representative from the CID office, chiefs and church leaders seek to teach video operators, the general public on the mandate and functions of KFCB which includes regulation of broadcast and film content, licensing among others.

Vidoe operators present, however poked holes into the government regulations, saying that the licensing rates are so high citing poor business performance and hard economic times experienced countrywide.
The date for the said inspection and crackdown is yet to be disclosed.
