Migori woman representative Pamela Odhiambo is on inner circles of getting endorsement from Kuria and Suba elders, a major move that will break tradition ahead of 2022 general elections.
On Saturday, elders from the two communities met the governor aspirant and her husband, Meru University Vice Chancellor Pro. Romanus Odhiambo in Kehancha and Migori town where they received tents and chairs for their functions.
In the past elders from the two communities have only endorsed male aspirants especially for governor and legislator seats which is complete with being installed as an elder, a preserve never met for women.
Odhiambo has already met with the elders privately over the move.
“She is an office holder and among serious governor aspirants in Migori county, as elders we held talks with her privately and today we have a public function together which may culminate into endorsement,” Kuria Council of Elders chairman Matiko Mahiri said.
Mahiri said while the Kuria culture has been keen on endorsing only male candidates and making them elders, they will consider including men and youths in the endorsements.
“We are in talks and her endorsement is on the table, but first elders will meet with our demand and what should be pledged for her governor bid then we will go ahead with the rights as a community,” Mahiri said.
Odhiambo acknowledged the calls and said she will be available for the endorsement as her candidature as the second Migori governor will foster peace and unity among all communities in the area, with development being the key agenda.
The endorsement from Kuria will clash with an earlier one done for senator Ochillo Ayacko who also seeks the governor seat.
