Migori County Women Representative Denittah Ghati has asked the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to extend the ongoing voter registration to capture more voters.

Ghati said little time had been allocated for the nationwide exercise and many vulnerable groups were going to be left out when the exercise ends next week.

The Women representative said many youth and women are having a hard time acquiring Identity cards which they would eventually use to register.

“Women and youth are still waiting to get ID’s and hurrying to end the voter registration exercise will deny them their democratic rights,” Ghati said.

Since the exercise was launched last month, county residents have been rushing to collect their ID’s from various collection centers and the number of those seeking to get them for the first time has been overwhelming.

She said the elderly and people living with disabilities have not been able to access the BVR-Kits and many were likely to get locked out.

The women representative last week spearheaded an exercise to have aged citizens across the county registered.

And with the rush to get ID’s, amid the registration exercise, Migori Women Representative feared that many eligible voter would be denied the chance to vote ODM and Raila Odinga.

Ghati was speaking at Anindo Primary School where she issued bursary checks to 65 students in Awendo constituency worth shs.10,000 each.

Through the 5.5 million National Affirmative Action funds that was awarded to Migori County, and is set to be distributed throughout the county, women and youth groups in Awendo Constituency received plastics chairs and tents.

The women representative also said the money was available as grants and urged women to form groups and apply for the money.
