Dormitory at Magina Girls Secondary School in Ndhiwa burnt

Magina Girls secondary school in Ndhiwa suba-County was on fire on Wednesday night when a dormitory of 62 capacity caught fire reducing students’ personal belongings to ashes.

The incident occurred when student were on night preps between 8 ands 9pm and it is suspected that it might had been caused by students beliewve3d to had been recruited in devil worshiping by people out to ruin the society.

The cause is yet to be established with students saying it could be arson.

There was no casualty reported as it occurred while they (students) were on preps revising their notes in preparation for end of the year exams.

Night guards on duty upon noticing the fire alerted the management who could do nothing as the fire had already engulfed the whole dormitory as students and teachers watched helplessly.

Parents and villagers thronged the institution to have a glimpse of the incident as students count losses while the Principal, teachers and other stakeholders were assessing damage caused and losses encountered.

Officials from the Homa-Bay County government disaster management department led by Henry Okidi visited the institution and pledged to purchase mattresses and blankets as the management were making possible arrangement to squeeze the affected students to other dorms for learning to continue uninterrupted and cover lessons in time.

PTA chairman Mark Kajwang’ expressed shock at what happened and appealed for funds from both the County and national governments to help in rebuilding the dormitory and put in place fire extinguishers to be used in case of fire outbreak .
