A somber mood has engulfed Winyo village in Rongo after a lynch mob invaded a teacher’s home and killed his wife on the spot over stolen motorbike.

Already police have arrested 11 suspects, both aged between 23-32 years and includes two women over the attack. A suspect is still on the run.

Rongo police boss Jonathan Kisaka said the suspects will be arraigned in court on Thursday after they invaded on Thursday evening home of Philip Akech Ayoo a teacher at Wasio Mixed Secondary School.

His wife Merezza Ogada Ayoo, a teacher at Siala Primary School who came to inspect the matter from their rental home in Rongo town was attacked by the mob and died on the spot.

A relative said the motorbike was placed in the house by a man in the homestead who had inherited a woman against the wish of the teacher.

“They have been having a long quarrel with the inheritor creating tension in the homestead, he was suspected to have placed the motorbike in the house and called the rowdy youths,” the witness said.

The group which carried sharp pangas and other crude weapons refused to be allowed to pick the motorbike peaceful, instead they attacked the woman killing her instantly.

“When we arrived at the scene we found the whole house vandalised and property destroyed,” Kisaka said.

The body was taken to Nyagena Mortuary as teachers through Rongo Knut secretary Thomas Ochiel Awino calling for speedy investigations.
