Over 2,000 vulnerable students from Suna East will benefit from a ksh. 16 Million CDF bursary in the area, Suna East CDF office has confirmed.
“We will have 2,200 students benefiting from our bursary this year. We target all the students in high school, Universities and Tertiary colleges,” He said.
This comes amid public outcry that the bursary was given late after other constituencies have received theirs while others read a political motive in the move.
Mr. Ken Mauko, the CDF chairman however says that the bursary is for 2016/2017 financial year and is due.
“The bursary that we are issuing now is 2016/2017 financial year that ends in june and that its a political move, is propaganda,” he said.
He added that they will not award the normal ksh. 10,000 to beneficiaries this season following the reduction in the money allocated for the project by National government.
“The constituency only received ksh.80 million as opposed to the over ksh.100million that we used to receive in the past financial years. Bursary is a percentage in the allocation, so when calculated the percentage falls at the ksh.16M that we have given,” He concluded.
The 2,200 students who will benefit from the said bursary will receive ksh. 8, each.
