Kenya union of teachers is brewing a bitter duel with TSC over their directive to teachers to have their non academic activities over the weekends.
Migori branch executive secretary Calleb Opondi termed the directive as draconian saying that no teacher will adhere to such directives. ‘’ no teacher will report on duty on weekends as it is a day reserved for worship’’ said Opondi.
Opondi said every Kenyan enjoys constitutional right of freedom of worship as enshrined in the constitution adding that no one has the authority to interfere with that.
The unionist who was addressing mourners In Rongo flanked by his Rongo counterpart Thomas Awino Ochiel and Rongo branch chairman Samwel Omwaga.
They said no government office is opened over the weekends wondering how teachers will stay in school when even the TSC offices remained closed.
Ministry had sent circulars to schools dated February 9 2017 through the office of the director general directed that all activities including games, staff meetings and annual general meetings will be done over the weekends.
This is aimed at intensifying measures to improve performance.
The circular in part said such activities will be done as from April 3rd to 10th to allow more time for teaching and learning.
