The Migori County Water and Sanitation Company is targeting an annual revenue stream of Sh50million by curbing on illegal connections and adding income streams.
MIWASCO Chief Executive Officer Sam Nyandiga said the company is working curbing illegal connections and adding streams of income that will open up coffers and targets for the company.
Speaking to Nyanza News in his office, Nyandiga said the company has been pumping twice a weak to their five million liters capacity tank and when they sell commodity they realise 48 per cent is lost.
“The biggest challenge we have is illegal water connections, we have given an amnesty on these to ensure we have legal streams in collection of money,” Nyandiga said.
Nyandiga said for a month they have active users paying bills to be about 2,600-2,700, but those registered are about 7,600 to 8,000 showing they have about 6,000 who have been illegally connected.
The company gets Sh1.7m per month but once illegal connection is controlled they have capacity to collect Sh4m in a month, on water sales only.
“On water alone we will have to get Sh50million in a year for water connection,” he said.
He said they will also collect revenue from water tanks and exhaust services in addition to other services.
“We took over when laws and regulations at county level were not in place, we will streamline this to add streams,” he said.

He said with team work they hope to take the company back into profit making path and to be able to cover costs and pay staff.
“We have a potential and the first is to control revenue streams, once amnesty on illegal connections ends in February on 13 we will work back,” Nyandiga said.
