Suna West Annual Tournament by Jalang’o ends with sanitary pads for girls, more disciplines

The Suna West Annual Tournament ended with issuing of sanitary towels to girls, a first in county for all sports tourney which ended last year.

Starlet Oduory, the chief officer for Special Programs said the tournament organised by her colleague at Migori county government as Director of Finance Eric Jalango was a game change in Suna West constituency.

“We promoted talent in Suna West as the only constituency level tournament and used the sports event to not only nature talent but impact positively for youths,” Oduory said.

She was speaking at Nyailing’a Primary School during the end of the tournament.

“We came together to educate youths to end cases of teen pregnancy, marriage and sexual and gender violence,” Oduory said.

She led distribution of sanitary towels to girls and women who attended the tournament.

Jalango said this year’s tournament included under 14 team and women category and next year they will add Netball and Volleyball.

“We made the biggest stride this year at our third anniversary as we had a total of 38 teams, the biggest so far and we know with continue support we will have more next year,” Jalang’o said.

So far for senior male team a total of 24 turned up, eight for the junior category and six for ladies.

The two said the tournament brought time for youths to engage in the last week before schools opened as all tournaments had been played in the county.

Vitalis Aoro, Migori county Director of Youths Affairs and Sports said the tournament was the biggest way to nature young talents.

Bernard Odongo, Migori FKF chairman branch said the success of tournament which brought both men, women and youngsters open up need to start a league in Suna West.

“There will be leagues in weekend to build other teams in higher tiers which will also open up call for making referees,” he said.
