Hundreds of protesters have blocked the Migori-Kisii highway at Nyachenge trading centre, lighting bonfires, and chanting war cries in response to the reported release of two murder suspects.

They are demanding justice, causing significant disruption as traffic vehicles and passengers remain stranded.

The protesters have erected large boulders and are burning fig trees to obstruct the road.

The Nyachenge villagers’ blockage of the road led to significant traffic congestion in the area.

Sabina Otondi, wife to one of the murder victims John Otondi joined in protest as well as relatives of slain Samwel Ombui.

They demanded for justice as the protest escalated.

Motorists were forced to divert to alternative rural access roads, making the region inaccessible from both Kisii and Migori for several hours.

This disruption caused considerable delays and frustration among travellers. By the time we went to press police were yet to arrive at the scene.

Most passengers were inconvenienced by the detours, as traffic vehicles had to navigate narrow and often poorly maintained shortcut routes.

this led to longer travel times and added frustration for those trying to reach their destinations several hours.
