Nyatike MP aspirant Shadrack Anyuo has condemned political chaos that marred a funeral in the area on Friday.

In a press release, Anyuo said the chaos that pitted supporters of Macalder Kanyarwanda MCA Felix Okwanyo in one hand and those of area MP Tom Odege was archaic.

He condemned the chaos, terming them as a setback to peace and democracy in Nyatike.

“We, the people of Nyatike, strongly condemn the cowardly act of violence witnessed yesterday at Kimai village during the burial of Mzee Dalmas Ater,” he said.

Youths allied to the two leaders clashed with the legislator who was on the podium having a verbal altercation with the MCA.

Several people were injured as youths swarmed the podium.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Suna West MP Peter Masara and county roads executive John Oring’o among other leaders were present at the function.

Anyuo said in modern Kenya all leaders should “embrace civility and modesty in handling our differences. Brains should encounter brains.”

Anyuo said Nyatike should be free to all leaders to converse and seek mandate without “fear of intimidation or violence.”

“Such acts of political intolerance must not be entertained, and we call upon relevant authorities to take swift action against those responsible,” he added.
