Number of police injured in Macalder mines chaos jumps to 4, govt investigating suspects- commissioner

Migori county commissioner Mutula Kisilu has said four police officers are receiving treatment at a hospital in Migori town over chaos at a mines in the county.

Speaking to the press in Migori town in his office on Monday, Kisilu said so far four officers are receiving treatment at Lifecare Hospital in Migori town.

“We have four officers who are receiving treatment and are in stable condition,” Kisilu said.

On Saturday chaos erupted at Macalder copper and gold mines when governor Ochillo Ayacko and Kisilu tried to talk to miners in Nyatike.

On Saturday first report, Migori county MCA was injured alongside two police officers as chaos erupted on Saturday at a gold mine.

More than a dozen others were also hurt in the melee.

Several vehicles were vandalised including one which was completely burnt by youths.

Kisulu said government are investigating those who caused chaos and have already received statements from members of the public.

“We are also looking for leaders who incited the public to cause chaos,” he added.
