Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohammed has said politics about future governor politics have caused the public spat with her colleague in the past.

Mohammed said the stand and public spat with Suna West MP Peter Masara in the past has been caused because she has chosen to align her leadership and politics towards governor Ochillo Ayacko.

“I have decided to back up Ayacko and his leadership which has gone against my colleague (Masara) here, he should just respect that decision and look elsewhere for his support base because my decision is not reversible,” Mohammed said.

She was speaking on Saturday in Migori town bus park in Suna West constituency where she gave out development cheques worth Sh1.2 to 8 groups in both Suna East and Suna West constituency.

Masara has declared intention to vie against Ayacko under the ODM ticket in the past which created tension in the county forcing Orange party leadership led by Raila Odinga to call for a truce between the two leaders.

Masara was forced to tone down early 2027 governor campaigns for months, but recently have organising social functions in churches and informal areas to solidify his support.

“I was told to keep quite and let Ayacko work even though nothing is happening in Migori, what I like to tell voters is that preparations for tomorrow’s journey can start today and ask for prayers,” Masara said during a function at St Francis Wiga Girls on Friday.

In past Mohammed and Masara have had ugly public spat over their association with governor Ayacko, governor politics in the next general elections which has seen their supporters hold parallel demos to support and condemn each other.

Tension between the two leaders come out in public three months ago during a funeral in Rapogi village, when Masara told Fatuma to look for a husband to marry her instead of telling men in her function that she was their wife.

“When she came here in 2013 to campaign she touted her being single, she is still using the same gimmick to confuse young men here instead if telling voters what she has done since being elected,’ Masara said at the funeral.

But on Saturday, Mohammed said she respects Masara as a fellow leader and sometimes her utterances may have been harsh but she has never insulted any leader in the county and only governor politics have created the rift.

“As far as I am concerned in the 2027 general elections I alongside Migori voters will back Ayacko for his second term, then in the coming general elections we will push through to have a first woman governor, Mohammed said.

“As a leader I want to say here that I respect all leaders, I was hurt when a fellow leader decided to use my marital and gender status in public but voters who picked me on independent ticket saw more in me,” Mohammed added.

She said ever since she joined politics Ayacko has been supporting her and ensure she said through and she will pay back the favour by supporting his re-election bid.

“As for 2027 elections let men fight that over with Ayacko, but in 2032 I will ensure we have a woman governor,” she said.

She called on current demonstrators led by young people to stick to their earlier agenda of accountability, ending corruption and tackling high cost of living instead of adding agenda and confusion.

“Some of their demands resonated well with Kenyans and opposition which held similar demonstrations but when they talk of scrapping off Woman Representative position and reducing counties we are shocked,” Mohammed said.
