Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has downplayed an EACC report saying the devolved unit is among several institutions across the country under investigating over corruption.
On Tuesday, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) listed Migori among 11 counties which are under investigations over suspected financial malpractices in their annual status report for the 2023/2024 financial year.
Migori is facing a probe over the alleged misappropriation of Sh140 million for the drilling and equipping of solar-powered boreholes.
Speaking at Piny Oyie on Wednesday during the launch of construction of modern market, Ayacko downplayed the report saying no amount was misused or any officer in his administration is under investigations.
“EACC is mandated by law to investigate and anybody can take a report to them, it is like reporting a matter to police who are doing investigations so far there is no alarm,” Ayacko said.
He said EACC is mandated to take reports of corruption from the public, investigate, prevent and educate Kenyans on corruption and their report was in line with their duties.
“They will investigate any use of public funds and because we are prudent on how devolution is working they will find nothing and arrest nobody because we are clean,” Ayacko said.
Ayacko laughed political rivals who have taken to social media to drag his name through the investigations calling it mere excitement.
“Funds are safe and no funds have been stolen in Migori under my watch, all projects were safely executed, but some people have gotten the temerity to play politics with the report which is funny and has no consequences politically,” he said.
He said because an entity is under investigations does not mean any funds have been stolen.
