Migori County governor Okoth Obado has defended the selection criteria used in his scholarship programmed dubbed “The Governor’s Scholarship”.

While addressing a crowed at Wangira Bose secondary school, the governor said the scholarship is governed by different laws that will take process to change.

The sponsorship that majorly targets bright but needy students from public schools has not been accepted easily by the private sectors who believe they too should be included.

“We had made some laws that will help us identify students for our scholarship and this can change slowly, most of the people are pushing for students in private who are bright and needy but we shall look on that in future”. He said.

The governor however promised to increase the number of students given sponsorship annually hence improving the level of education in the county.

Bukira East MCA Chacha David Mathew criticized some of the rules governing the scholarship terming them as not favouring needy students from the county.

“I want to thank the governor for coming up with a scheme that will see our students achieve their dreams but how can it help students from private schools who are bright and needy?” he questioned.

Chacha also advised the county government to consider equal distribution of resources especially in remote areas of the county to improve the living standards of the people.

However, Chacha requested the governor to accept positive critics as that will make him work best for the people of Migori County.

“I can advise my brother governor to accept all critics as this will give him more room for improving in areas he has not performed well”. He said.

Governor Obado was recently out of the county to china where he met different investors in agriculture field especially tobacco that is practised in most part of the county.

He also took time to advise the farmers to venture into mix farming and to promote the modern system of farming that will raise the distribution of farming in their areas.

“I was in China to get a tobacco factory and am happy that we have met friends who are ready to help us improve the tobacco market by building a factory in Migori County. He added
