Rongo MP Paul Abuor had a Jamuhuri Day celebrations to forget when chaos broke out at Rongo Primary School grounds pitting his supporters and those of aspirant Nelson Adoko.
Chaos spilled over when Abuor clashed with Adoko when both their supporters charged at each other when the MP was at the venue and attempted to make his speech.
It forced Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko and Migori county commissioner Kisilu Mutua to break protocol and calm the crowd which had charged to the podium.
Abuor had a difficult time to deliver his speech to the charged crowd which was divided into two and at one time he had to digress and threatened to have peace and respect.
“We need to have respect in Rongo, i will never allow some people to come here and disrespect me,” Abuor said.
Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko was forced to intervened to neutralise the heckles from both camps, which partially bore fruit and gave Commissioner Mutua time to complete the President’s speech and for him to also give his speech.
Despite this each time Abuor stood either behind Ayacko or Kisilu while they were delivering their speech they had to struggled to deliver them as rowdy youths from both camps heckled at each other.
The heckles come after the area MP Abour was mentioned in a Parliamentary scorecard by Mzalendo which exposed 19 MPs who never contributed to any debate in the National Assembly for the year 2024.
The list also portrays Abuor and the 18 other MPs as being the least vocal in expressing public and constituent views and debating issues of local and national importance.
Mzalendo is a Kenyan non-partisan Parliamentary Monitoring Organisation (PMO) that promotes open, inclusive and accountable parliaments across Kenya and Africa.
During the Jamuhuri Day fete, anti-Abuor kept chanting ‘Momo’ (A dumb person) each time he reached for the microphone to show their displeasure at the legislator while the legislators sang to urge him on as armed police stood between them.
Governor Ochilo who delivered his speech outlined his administration’s achievements including the construction of 140 Early Childhood Development (ECD ) classrooms, 26 newly constructed dispensaries, 30 boreholes across the county, 100-bed maternity wing in Nyatike Sub County among other achievements.
