Finance and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi recalled his days at Kokuro Boys High School, his Alma Meter based in Migori county.

Mbadi said when he sat for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)in 1990 he was among top academic boys as he was among the first candidates from the school to score a B- (minus).

“I went to the school recently to give a talk to fellow students especially candidates and when I explained how we were in 1990 I realised all of them were not born and knew we have come far as a school,” Mbadi said.

He said the previous year the school had only four students with C+ (plus) and in that year they were only two.

He was the top student and out of ten subjects they did then he had 79 points.

“B minus was a serious grade and in that year Kokuro being a small school punched beyond their weight,” Mbadi recalled.

He said in Nyanza region alone had only two B+ (plus), three B (plain) and nine B- (minus).

The school changed a lot, the administration block and office was built while we were there and by then it looked like a very big office and the assembly ground looked huge.

“But when we grew I realised how small it was and felt it is time we make a differences in our schools,” he said.

Mbadi addressed fellow alumni during a recent gala night at Bomas Of Kenya which brought the current principal Saul Kitui and others.

The alumni chairman Erick Mala, Secretary General Calvince Ogogo and Organising Secretary Mathias Elmad were among officials who attended the event.

Current Principal Saul Kitui lauded the alumni association as a means of paying back to the society.
