Today I signed a condolence book for the late Raila Odinga at his Karen residence, where Mama Ida welcomed me with her characteristic grace amid this profound national sorrow.
As I stood there, reflecting on Baba’s extraordinary 80-year legacy from surviving brutal torture under Moi, leading Kenya’s multiparty rebirth in 2002, serving as our unifying Prime Minister in 2008, to his relentless five presidential bids and recent African Union chairmanship.
My heart swelled with gratitude for a man who fought tirelessly for justice, democracy, equity, fairness and dignity for every Kenyan.
The air was thick with traditional Luo dirges from elders outside, while queues of mourners from Kibera to beyond stretched for kilometers, all united in honoring Agwambo’s unbreakable spirit. Hii ni pendo la taifa, rest in power, Raila Amollo Odinga Tinga Wuod Nyalego!
