The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has singled out a national media house for writing and prempting a misleading story over leadership.
The party in a press statement released on Thursday said Daily Nation carried misinformation which it said they have disagreed with strongly.
“We wish to register our strong disagreement with and disapproval of a weird story published by the Daily Nation today which attempts to write a political obituary of Party Leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga while at the same time inciting non-existent rivalries for Mr. Odinga’s position,” the party said in a statement.
The statement was released by the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Odinga has been campaigning for the election to the position of chairman of the African Union Commission during elections to be held in February 2025.
In the statement, the party said Odinga nor the Orange Democratic Movement has announced his exit and retirement from party leadership as insinuated by the newspaper article.
“We therefore see no reason whatsoever for the Daily Nation to come up with a screaming headline announcing Mr. Odinga’s retirement,” the statement said.
They said attempt by the party at the analysis was “incoherent,” especially on Raila’s life and times as leader of ODM.
“Nation’s story is in absolute bad faith and intended to create despondency among party supporters while fanning pandemonium in ODM,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna called on the paper to “We advise the public, and, in particular, the party’s supporters to take careful note of the paper’s intentions and treat the publication with the contempt it deserves.
In the meantime, we expect the Daily Nation “to be professional enough and issue a categorical clarification that the story published had no basis and served no professional purpose.”
