Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has written a memo to the national government to push through development projects in the county after joint county leadership meetings.

On February 11, the governor wrote the memo (Ref CGM/GVN/MEMO/VOL.1/001) to President William Ruto through Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Economic Planning John Mbadi

The memo helped in meeting Mbadi which brought all elected leaders from Migori county in a meeting led by the governor. The leaders who were present were Rongo MP Paul Abuor, Awendo MP Walter Owino, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Suna West MP Peter Masara, Kuria West MP Mathias Robi, Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama, Senator Eddy Oketch and Woman Representative Fatuma Mohammed.

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed who is also the national assembly Majority Leader was absent.

The memo, “PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN MIGORI COUNTY BY THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT,” listed development across all eight constituencies and 40 wards of Migori.

The meeting with Mbadi happened in Nairobi five days ago, while on February 18 Migori leaders also met Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga.

“Our discussions focused on prioritizing key initiatives to spur development to enhance livelihoods across Migori county,” Ayacko said after the meetings.

Nyamita said Migori people should see and know that “only true partnership with the national government will deliver the much needed services for our people.”

Masara on his part called for more collaborations and honesty to help bring more tangible development in the county.

Here are list of proposed projects and programs:

Water & Energy Department

1. Uriri- Upgrading of the Gogo Hydro-Power Project to increase its capacity for power production and other economic activities in Uriri and Nyatike
2. Nyatike-  Provision of alternative sources of energy for the Industrial Park currently under construction and related infrastructure (Roads and Water)

Roads Transport Department

1. Awendo- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Kanyawanga-Kwoyo-Madiaba-Dede-Odongo her-Rapogi Road
2. Suna West- Kababu- Bondo Nyironge- Piny Oyie- Adera road
3. Nyatike- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Masara-Muhuru Road, and Payment to contractor for Masara-Sori road to enable him return to the road
4. . Rongo- Riosiri-Rongo University-Chamgiwadu Road
5. Kuria East- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Taranganya- Ntimaru- Nyamtiro OSBP- Kegonga- Loliondo B1 jcn
6. Kuria West- Nyarobiro-Kombe-masaba-Nyanchabo-Getong’anya-Ikerege-Tarang’anya Rd 26kms KeRRA, To be funded for Tarmac
7. Uriri- 1. Upgrading to bitumen standards of Stella – Gogo – Oyani Road – 200m
8. Suna West- Expansion of the Migori Airstrip runway from the current 1.2km to 2 km and
9. Nyatike- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Masara-Muhuru Road.
10. Kuria West- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Nyanchabo-Getonganya -Ikerege, Taranganya, Senta – Ntimaru roadarrow
11. Kuria East- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Taranganya, Senta – Ntimaru road,
12. Awendo- Upgrading to bitumen standards of Kanyawanga , Dede, Ranen, Kokuro, Dede – Rapogi road
13. Kuria West – Completion of the Migori-Transmara Road to improve communication with Narok County for sustainable development.
14. Suna East- Construction of a bridge over River Migori connecting Jua-Kali/ Ombo Modern Market in Suna East Sub-County and Nyangubo/Slaughter.
15. Nyatike- Construction of Muhuru piers and Sori landing site to improve lake transport and blue economy in Migori County at Nyatike Sub-County.

Agriculture Department

1. Nyatike- Construction of a high-capacity Rice Mill at the Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme to help in the processing of the excess rice occasion by the expansion of the scheme from 5000 acres to 19000 acres.
2. Kuria West      Improve the drying capacity of the Getonganya Sweat Potato Factory and provide an alternative source of power for the plant, preferably solar.
3. Kuria West      Construction of a modern meat and tannery processing plant at Karamu Market. 
4. Kuria East        Expansion of Gitungi Coffee Factory.

Trade Department

1. Kuria West- Construction of a standard border Market at Guitembe to serve Migori, Narok. to spur trade and related activities between the two counties and even the neighboring communities in Tanzania.
2. Nyatike- Construction of a Museum at Thim Lich Oinga Cultural site, Senye/Mugabo Caves by the Tourism Promotion Fund.
3. Nyatike- Construction of Economic Stimulus Markets at Masara, Sori, Muhuru.
4. Kuria East-  Construction of Economic Stimulus Markets at Kehancha Markets, Kegonga ESP markets.
5. Uriri- Construction of Economic Stimulus Markets at Uriri market.
6. Rongo- Construction of Economic Stimulus Markets at Rongo Modern Municipal Market.
7. Uriri- Construction of Bus parks – Ogwedhi modern market
8. Kuria East- Construction of Bus parks – Ntimaru modern market
9. Suna West- Bus parks – Migori intergrated modern market
10. Kuria West- Acquisition of land for establishment of East African Community (EAC) cross border market in Isebania
11. Suna West- Construction of ESP Market at Masara

Health Department

1. Nyatike- Construction of comprehensive level four hospital block with complete wards, theatres, radiology unit, intensive care unit, newborn unit, maternity and laboratory in Macalder hospital
2. Awendo- Construction of comprehensive level hospital block with complete wards, theatres, radiology unit, intensive care unit, newborn unit, maternity and laboratory in Awendo Hospital
3. Kuria West- Construction of comprehensive level hospital block with complete wards, theatres, radiology unit, intensive care unit, newborn unit, maternity and laboratory in Kehancha Sub County hospital.
4. Suna East- Equipping of the medical surgical complex in the Migori County Referral Hospital.
5. Awendo- Equipping of mother and child hospital unit in Awendo  Sub County Hospital
6. Kuria East- Equipping of mother and child hospital unit in Ntimaru Sub County Hospital.

Environment Department 

1. Suna East- Construction of Ultra-Modern Fire Station in Migori Municipality.
2. Nyatike- Construction of a modern sanitary landfill within the county,  Construction of Dykes at North Kadem for Flood control and Setting up of Migori Gold Refinery system.

Education Department

1. Suna East-       Construction of a modern stadium in Migori County for sports and talent development.
