President William Ruto has travelled to Accra for the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
During his visit, Ruto is expected to engage in discussions that emphasize strengthening the mutual relationship between Kenya and Ghana.
Key topics will include trade, energy, oil and gas, and the textile industry, aiming to enhance their longstanding ties in trade and multilateral diplomacy.
The visit comes barely a week after Mahama visited Kenya over the December festivities.
Ruto hosted him at his palatial home in Narok, where he drummed up support for former Prime Minister Mr Odinga Odinga’s bid for African Union Commission chairmanship
Mahama exuded confidence in Mr. Odinga’s leadership wishing him support and success in his bid.
Both Ruto and Raila congratulated Ghana for holding peaceful elections.
Ghana is often regarded as a beacon of democracy in Africa, having developed a robust democratic culture over the years.
Its political stability and regular peaceful transitions of power serve as a model for many African nations, including Kenya.
” This commitment to democratic principles has earned Ghana respect and admiration across the continent,” Raila said.
Many foreign diplomatic missions in Africa also congratulated Ghana.
The United States congratulated President-elect John Mahama on his successful election campaign, following the announcement of results by Ghana’s Electoral Commission.
Additionally, congratulations are extended to Vice President-elect Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for making history as Ghana’s first female vice president.
In the recent past, many elections in Africa have faced post-election violence and political instability due to a “winner takes all” approach.
In Kenya, in response, President Ruto adopted a model of consociational democracy.
This approach aims to create a broad-based government that incorporates both the ruling party and the opposition, ensuring national unity and equal representation.
In appointing Cabinet Secretaries from across the political spectrum, Ruto seeks to address community concerns and mitigate political dissent, fostering a more inclusive political environment.
