Wildlife conservation world is thrilled after endangered white rhino gave birth to a healthy calf in Kenya.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), body mandated to take care of wildlife and parks announced that the birth at Ruma National Park in Homa Bay county will boost the number of endangered rhino species.
“Ruma National Park is thrilled to welcome a beautiful new southern white rhino calf,” the agency said in a statement.
According to data from KWS, the park receives more than 4000 visitors every year, a number which has since doubled after rigorous campaigns from the local Homa Bay county government.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga welcomed the birth.
“Let’s cherish this precious moment and remain committed to protecting our remarkable wildlife,” she told the press.
“We are truly grateful for this addition to our remarkable wildlife, and we recommit ourselves to continue protecting our wildlife heritage,” she said
Homa Bay started a programme of promoting the park through a race dubbed’ the Roan Antelope Half Marathon’ where professional and amateur runners compete annually.
The Roan Antelope is the only specie unique to the park.
A second edition of the race was to be held in May this year, but it was postponed to a later date to be communicated.
