Government has moved to clear the way for expansion of Gogo Falls in River Kuja, Migori county for electricity generation with issuing of title deeds.
Officials from the ministry of energy and county government, alongside locals led an event to issue 45 title deeds to locals which will clear way for the expansion.
The Gogo station is currently producing 2 megawatts (MW) but it will be increased to 8.6 MW which will be a critical boost for reliable power which is clean energy while at the same it improve infrastructure and livelihoods.
Once upgraded, the Gogo Hydropower Plant will generate 32 gigawatt-hours annually, reducing power outages and transmission losses.
“By securing title deeds and initiating redevelopment, KenGen has created a step toward economic empowerment and long supply.” Alfred Agoi, the KenGen chairman said.
According to KenGen, the title deeds not only secured land for the project but also symbolizes future where energy projects improve lives, empower communities, and drive Kenya’s economy.
“This project is a beacon of hope for our sustainable energy goals. The project aligns with the country’s Bottom-Up Economic model,” he added.
Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Nyatike MP Tom Odege said they appreciated the move by national government which they said will transform lives for generations beyond power center in Migori.
“As the Governor, Migori County is committed to fostering synergy to ensure we get the project’s potential to transform opportunities for the benefit of our residents and entire Kenyans,” Ayacko said.
KenGen’s Managing Director and CEO, Peter Njenga, emphasized the project’s wider impact: transforming the western Kenya region’s energy landscape.
