Government should ensure that sanitary towels are free in the country instead of condoms, nominated MCA Florence Oile has said.
Oile said while sex is consensual, having periods is not negotiable making up for the government and parents to ensure a steady free supply of the pads in schools.
“We need government and parents not to relent on issuing of pads to girls, we have cases of girls forced to seek the pads from boys as parents ignore their role,” she said.
She called on girls to take having periods with dignity as pride as it shows maturity and not a way of engaging in pre-marital sex.
“We have those who never get periods and have resorted seek healing. Girls should not be victimised of having periods,” She said.
She called on boys to help girls to go through their period of menstrual period.
Migori county director of sports Silas Jonyo encouraged boys to take central part in health by undergoing voluntary male circumcision and be in the fore front in helping girls when in their periods by not shunning them.
“These should not introduce then to sex, but promote health as it prepare them to challenges faced by men and women in the world. We need a healthy and fully aware youths in Migori,” Jonyo said.
