Woman slashed to death by in-law in Ntimaru, Kuria East

A family in Ntimaru, Kuria East is in mourning after a woman was murdered in cold blood by her brother in law.

Gati Weisero was slashed to death by his brother in law Getangata Weisero in the gruesome incident that left locals and authorities reeling in shock.

Weisero is said to have quarreled with the deceased after he accused her of of colluding with his wife to cheat on him.

The suspect reportedly waylaid the deceased when she was coming from a nearby well to fetch water and slashed her into pieces. She died on the spot.

“The man had accused the woman of knowing the ways of his cheating wife, something the deceased severally denied. He then threatened to kill her after the wife disappeared. On the fateful day, he waylaid the woman on a village path while she was coming from a well to fetch water. He fished out his machete and landed on her, cutting her into pieces,” narrated Mr Mwita Chacha,  a relative.

Residents who heard the wails of the woman and rushed to the scene tried to save her only to realise she had died on the spot.

“We found her in a pool of blood with her head and hands chopped off. It was a horrific. We have never seen this before. How can someone be so brutal?” Siprine Robi, a resident said.

Mr Mwita Wanjacho, the husband of the deceased, said he wondered why his brother had resorted to killing his wife. “I don’t know why my own brother would do this to my wife… I don’t know. It’s so painful,” said Mr Wanjacho amid tears. The deceased was a mother of six.

Confirming the incident, Kuria East OCPD Ahmed Abdikadir said the suspect fled the village immediately after committing the act.

“The man had issues with his wife and accused the deceased of knowing the secret affair of the wife. He murdered the woman and disappeared immediately after committing the act,” said Mr Abdikadir.

He said the police have mounted a manhunt for the suspect, who is reported to have escaped to neighouring Tanzania. “We are searching for him. We shall catch up with him and subject him to the law,” added Mr Abdikadir.The remains of the deceased were taken by police to Migori County Referal Hospital mortuary.
