A 23-year-old mother on Monday was arraigned in Migori law court and charged with child negligence before resident magistrate Edwine Nyaga and pleaded guilty of having given out her three weeks old baby boy to Penina Kemunto.
The woman who alleged to have sell her three weeks old baby to another elderly woman at Wasweta village was arrested on Sunday in Suna west sub county Migori County.
The prosecutor Kimandu Waithanju said that the accused Dorcas Kemunto is alleged to have neglected her duties as a parent and gave her baby boy child to Penina Kemunto who denied having bought the child and was brought to the court by the area chief who was not in court Monday.
Dorca Kemunto, single mother was arrested after police launched a man hunt in Magoto village wasweta 2 sub location Sunas outh location in Suna west after they were informed by the area chief Silvance Gibore.
Suna south location Area chief Silvans Gibore said he was informed by one of the residents who heard the minor crying at one of the homes in the area where there was no young mother who has given birth recently.
“The neighbors discover that Dorca Kemunto 60 years old mother was trying to feed the minor form porridge and milk and sometimes breastfeeding the child,” said Gibore.
Gibore said when Penina was being interrogated she said that she was given the child as a free gift by Dorca who was not in apposition to raise up the child.
According to the Penina, Dorca does not have a stable job and that’s why I decided to take the child when she gave it to me.
One of Migori county children officer who did not want to be quoted said that it is not right for the old woman to hold a child and the child need to breastfeed it’s also illegal to abandon the child.
The accused was remanded until 19th March 2018 when she will be back in the same court for the continuation of the case.
The child has been taken to The Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Migori town.

The accused has been released on a free bond and the child has been taken to The Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Migori town and will be back to the same court for the case on 19thMarch,2018 for the continuation of the case.
